Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who are Between Deserts tours for?
Our tours are for designed people who want to grow into the best versions of themselves. No only for themselves, but for the world around them.
We suggest participants have a strong understanding of the basic concepts of self development, and be oriented to exploring beyond their comfort zone intellectually, emotionally, and physically.
We are non-denominational and welcome participants of all spiritual, national, and ethnic backgrounds. -
How are Between Deserts tours different from other alternative travel companies?
We are more than just a travel company. By integrating self-development work into our programs we provide participants with an opportunity to test where they are at in life, how they could change, and what type of person they want to be for the world they live in.
Our tours still include all the best parts of adventurous travel – the new people, music, traditions, thrills, laughs, beauty and learning – however they are delivered in a way that makes you a part of the life you visit, not just a passing face. -
Why are your programs more expensive?
Our programs are more expensive than other ‘alternative tours’ because of the quality of our facilitators and guides, the extensive self-development facilitation included, and our policy of supporting communities by paying fairly for local services.
Our programs include one-one and group work with highly qualified therapists, self-development coaches, and cultural experts. This adds to the price, and the quality of the experience. -
Can I opt-out of the therapy sessions or other self-development work and still go on the program?
We understand participants may not see a need for therapy work or may prefer to find their own therapist. Individual work components may be deducted from the program but the group-work sessions that we do are essential to the goals of the program and cannot be deducted.
Attendance is not compulsory but is highly encouraged to maximise the value of the experience. -
What about safety?
Between Deserts Travel works with local guides and authorities to ensure safety in the areas we visit.
We personally test all tour itineraries before taking participants on them and prepare back-up itineraries in the case of sudden changes in the security environment. -
Is insurance included?
No. Tour participant are responsible for their own insurance, which is compulsory to join to tour. We work with a range of insurance providers who can provide comprehensive policies based on your nationality and destination.

Group Sizes
All Between Deserts tours are limited to group sizes of 6 (plus guides and translators) to ensure maximum quality and engagement with communities and experiences.

What does the preparatory work involve?
Prior to our trips we meet for a minimum of four weekly sessions of 2.5 hours each. These sessions are led by self-development and cultural experts and prepare the group for the self-development work and experiences they will encounter during the trip.
We also provide participants with recommendations of reading and multi-media materials that will help them understand more of the people and places they visit.
